Dr Carman obtained his undergraduate training at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), triple-majoring in Physiological Psychology, Mammalian Physiology, and Biochemistry and Cell Biology, with a minor in Visual Arts. He then attended George Washington University School of Medicine. Following training in General and Trauma Surgery at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, California, he completed his Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at USC affiliated Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Hospital, where his cases included scalp reconstruction on pediatric burn patients referred from the USC Burn Unit.
He is currently honored to serve as Treasurer for The American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and is the Chairman of both the Ethics and Recertification Exam Committees for that institution. In addition, Dr. Carman serves on the Editorial Staff of the ISHRS Hair Transplant Forum International, the most widely respected peer-reviewed journal in Hair Restoration Surgery.
